Soothing Yourself

Unpleasant or draining emotions can be exhausting. Often we are encouraged to ignore, forget, or numb ourselves. Those feelings express a need and can be a great opportunity for growth, embrace them, let them teach you, and take care of yourself with comforting activities.

Self-pampering activities

Make a list of activities you enjoy. Avoid food and other stimulants. The goal is to comfort without becoming numb. Think of pleasant and happy moments in your life; these moments are usually free.

My emotional frame

Create a personal emotional frame: write your name at the top, list qualities after “I am…”, and complete “When I feel uneasy…” with favorite soothing activities.

Decorate it, place it where you can see it, and read it at least once a week. When stressed: read your qualities, pick one soothing activity, and spend 15–20 minutes pampering yourself. Remember to love yourself, you are just perfect.
